Why CARE LAB?

We can all agree that these are unprecedented times.

In the course of a few short years, the United States, together with the rest of the world, has experienced a public health pandemic; a racial and gender reckoning; an unfolding series of climate disasters; and an increasingly multi-ethnic and aging demographic.

These changes have prompted stress and mistrust, emotions that can spiral into deep conflict and toxic polarization.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

CARE LAB is a participatory laboratory working with allies across the political spectrum to create solutions. We have designed a series of interventions that support collaborative leadership, help bridge the divide between constituents and policymakers, and contribute to a sense of common fate.

We ground our efforts in scientific research and case studies that reveal humans to be tremendously capable of change, cooperation, and conflict-resolution.

To strengthen these capacities in our institutions and society, CARE LAB: (1) designs unique experiential education and relationship-building opportunities (2) creates safe spaces for participants to share and listen to each other’s stories, and (3) promotes practices that help build resiliency in the face of stress, and create habits of cooperation and empathy.
